How many hours to ride independently?
In Ottawa conditions, most riders reach full independence after 15–20 hours. The Learn to Ride Pack covers 10 hours — enough to get you riding consistently.

Do packs carry over to snowkiting season?
Yes. Sessions are valid for 12 months and can be used for kiteboarding, winging, or snowkiting.

Do I need kite experience?
No — boat sessions are completely standalone. Many students book them to build board skills before or between kite/wing lessons.

Can I book alone?
Sessions are designed for 2–4 riders. If you want a solo session, reach out and we’ll work something out.

What happened if it’s windy?
Boat sessions run on calm days only. Wind creates waves that make boat sessions unpleasant — on those days, we can switch to kite lessons instead (Lessons offer at kite pricing)

WHERE WE KITE

The Ottawa-Gatineau region has ideal conditions for both kitesurfing and snowkiting. It’s a windy region with shallow water and plenty of snow in the winter.

Many of our lessons are taught at Britannia Beach, but the location may vary based on conditions.

GOOD QUESTIONS, HONEST ANSWERS

Everything you need to know before your first session.

In Ottawa conditions, most riders reach full independence after 15–20 hours of instruction. The Learn to Ride Pack covers 10 hours — enough to get you riding consistently. The rest depends on your pace and how often you practise between sessions.

Yes — all kiteboarding gear is included (kite, board, harness, helmet, life jacket).

For water lessons, bring:

  • Neoprene water shoes
  • Wetsuit
  • Optional: sunglasses with strap + sunscreen

Spring/Fall: add gloves, hood, or a thicker wetsuit/drysuit for comfort.

For snowkiting, bring:

  • Your own skis or snowboard
  • Ski helmet
  • Warm winter clothing (snowsuit, goggles recommended)

We’ll help you adjust gear based on conditions when you book.

Above 10 knots is a good rule of thumb. If conditions are not good for kiteboarding, there are other activities that you can enjoy. Reach out to find out if the conditions are good for riding.

Kite sessions are scheduled around wind conditions — we’ll confirm with you in advance. On difficult wind-direction days, we can sometimes run kite sessions from the boat. On truly calm days, we switch to boat sessions instead. Your session time is never wasted.
Sessions are valid for 12 months from purchase. They can be used across disciplines — start on kiteboarding in summer, carry remaining sessions into snowkiting season in winter.
Absolutely. Boat sessions are completely standalone — wakeboarding, hydrofoiling, or tubing behind the boat. Many students book them to build board skills before starting kite lessons. It genuinely speeds up progress.
Yes. All sessions are available in English and French. When you reach out, just write in the language you’re most comfortable with and we’ll follow your lead.

Most kite lessons are held at Britannia Park on the Ottawa River — find us on Google Maps as Pure Kiteboarding. Boat sessions launch from the Nepean Sailing Club. Exact meeting point is confirmed prior to the session.

Yes, with professional instruction and training. Kiteboarding is an extreme sport, but safety systems and education are key. With Pure Kiteboarding, you’ll learn everything you need to know about safety and understanding weather conditions.

Kiteboarding requires technique and skill, not brute physical force. Kiteboarding can be learned by people of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels.

Most of our lessons are done in shallow water, but to keep you safe, we require you to know how to swim to kiteboard, wingfoil, and boat sessions.

Anyone who is pregnant, has back issues, chronic pain, or any conditions that prevent physical activity.
